Prince Adewole Adebayo, a leading figure in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticised the Federal Government for what he described as an inconsistent and ineffective approach to tackling insecurity across Nigeria. Speaking on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Adebayo argued that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated the ability to execute complex operations abroad but struggles with basic security challenges at home.
He referenced the government’s successful capture of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in Nairobi, Kenya, as proof that high-profile operations are possible. “If they can capture someone abroad and bring him here for sentence, why can’t the same efficiency be applied to tackling banditry and mass abductions within Nigeria?” he questioned.
Adebayo expressed disbelief at how armed groups continue to abduct large numbers of people without significant resistance. He drew a striking comparison, noting, “It is not easy to get even 35 children to cooperate,” highlighting the puzzling ease with which criminals seize dozens or hundreds of individuals and escape unchallenged.
The SDP leader also criticised the nation’s security infrastructure, pointing out that despite police presence in every local government area, violent attacks and kidnappings continue. He suggested that the government seems selective in prioritising operations and questioned its capacity to respond quickly to threats facing citizens.
Adebayo called for a comprehensive reassessment of Nigeria’s security strategy, stressing that citizens should not live in fear while criminals operate with impunity. “A government capable of complex international operations should not struggle to address insecurity within its own borders,” he said.
