A 47-year-old man, identified as Ezekiel, was arrested in Delta State, Nigeria, for allegedly beating his 42-year-old cousin to death during a heated argument over the refund of a ₦1,000 burial levy.
The incident occurred on December 12, 2025, after the family returned from a relative’s burial and held a meeting regarding contributions. The suspect reportedly insisted vehemently on receiving his N1,000 refund, and a fight ensued during which he struck his cousin, who was attempting to caution him, leading to the victim’s death.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and the tragic nature of the event, lamenting how a minor financial disagreement led to the death of a family member. The suspect claimed he acted in self-defense during the scuffle.
