Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, was on Monday arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge.
The charges, confirmed by Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, include assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest.
Portable’s arraignment follows a viral video that emerged on Sunday, showing him in police custody—reportedly linked to a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
According to the prosecution, the singer allegedly assaulted Ashabi, several police officers, and others at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.
Other alleged victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, with a dealer’s number registered to Wally Dex Auto, valued at N12 million and owned by Ileyemi.
In court, two of Ashabi Simple’s siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was absent.
The police further alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing official duties.
The presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the police officer named in the assault charge. The judge ruled that bail could not be considered until the officer appears in court.
As a result, Portable was remanded in custody, with a new bail hearing set for January 19.
