The Anambra State Police Command has unveiled the identity of the masquerade allegedly responsible for violent attacks that left several residents injured during a recent festive period in the state.
According to the police, the masquerade owner has been identified as Ifesinachi Ezeolu, a 28-year-old male. His identity was confirmed following his arrest and detention by the command.
Police investigations revealed that Ezeolu was allegedly behind the unprovoked attacks on members of the public while performing in the “Agaba Awgbu” masquerade during a local festival. The attacks reportedly caused panic and resulted in multiple injuries to unsuspecting passersby.
In a statement, the Police Command confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
The command reiterated its commitment to public safety, stressing that while cultural and traditional practices are respected, no masquerade or cultural activity is permitted to infringe on citizens’ rights through assault, intimidation, or acts capable of causing public disorder.
The police assured Ndi Anambra that appropriate legal action would be taken to deter similar incidents in the future
