PastorTolu Odukoya has opened up about marriage and divorce, sharing honest views that have sparked deep conversations online.
What she said about submission and control in marriage is making people rethink everything.
Speaking during a recent discussion onArchives of Becoming, she said that although she is divorced, she is not an advocate for divorce. She explained that marriage should be worked on and restored where possible, but made it clear that physical abuse should never be tolerated under any condition.
She also pointed out that the church has contributed to confusion around submission and control in marriage, saying scriptures are sometimes taught without proper explanation of shared responsibility.
Using God’s forgiveness as an example, she encouraged couples to show selfless love, describing marriage as hard work meant to reflect God’s love to the world.
On remarriage, she said she cannot say it is always God’s plan, but believes God does not want people to be alone. However, she stressed that marriage is not for everybody because it demands sacrifice.
