Terrorists have attacked the Inkirmi Iri community in the Idon Ward of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State killing one person, injuring four others and abducting 11 residents.
The attack occurred at about 11:37 p.m. Friday, when the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents, reports The Sun.
A credible source in the area who spoke in confidence confirmed the incident, saying the victim, Bitrus Stephen, was killed instantly during the attack.
Those abducted were identified as Cletus Benjamin, Rahila Benjamin, Daniel Livinus, Hikima Alexander, Bomboi Andrawus, Jonathan Gideon, Maria Joshua, Joseph Obed, Babiyana Tanimu, Mary Boniface and Suzana Boniface.
Four persons were injured in the assault, namely, Joshua Fidelis, Gabriel Madaki, Boniface John and Safiya Busa.
Joshua Fidelis, who was critically injured, was said to have been rushed to a private hospital for treatment, while the others were also receiving treatment at different health facilities.
The attackers also reportedly rustled 21 cattle during the raid before fleeing the community.
The local council area has in recent years witnessed repeated incidents of banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural settlements. Several communities across Idon, Kufana, Kurmi Wali of Afogo Ward (where over 100 worshipers were recently abducted) have suffered similar raids, with residents frequently targeted for abduction and ransom.
Security agencies have carried out operations in parts of Kajuru, but sporadic attacks have continued, raising fresh concerns among residents over safety in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, both the Kaduna State Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs were yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident.
