Max Dowman lit up north London off the bench to inspire Arsenal to a late 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s side were far from fluent for large swathes of this encounter, and needed to call on David Raya to superbly deny Dwight McNeil and Beto either side of half-time.
But off the bench, Dowman provided two moments of magic to move the Gunners temporarily ten points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
In the 89th minute, his cross deceived Jordan Pickford in the air, with the ball eventually bouncing off Piero Hincapie and into the path of Viktor Gyokeres to tap home.
And then, with Pickford up for an Everton corner in the final minute, Dowman broke with the ball from one end to another, beating two opposition players before tapping home into an empty net.
In the process, the 16-year-old becomes Arsenal’s youngest-ever goalscorer in Premier League history and helps make it four league and making space for Eze, who sees his effort beaten away by Pickford.
