One unfortunate woman has met her untimely death when an irate mob beat her to death on accusation of a missing penis.
At least seventeen people have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe, 46, of Chingola, who was fatally attacked by a mob.
Ms Kamutumbe was killed on March 20, 2026, in Kisasa area of Kalumbila District, North Western Province, while she was on a business visit.
She was senselessly attacked on allegations that she caused the disppearance of a man’s manhood.
Yesterday, President Hakainde Hichilema said he was appalled with the brutal murder of the deceased and called for arrest of her aggressor.
In an update, Zambia Police Service public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi said in a statement that 17 suspects in connection with the incident, up from the initial eight suspects, are in custody.
Of the suspects apprehended, three are female. All suspects remain in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
“The case was initially reported by Mr. Mwalede Siamuchimba, aged 39, of Solwezi, who informed police of the fatal assault on his cousin.
Police will continue to arrest all individuals found to have participated in this crime, as part of efforts to ensure accountability and deter acts of mob justice,” Mr Chilabi said.
To enhance security, Police Command has deployed additional officers from the School of Public Order Maintenance (Mobile Unit) based in Kamfinsa, Kitwe. Officers are conducting increased patrols in Kalumbila District and surrounding areas.
“The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns this act of mob justice, including the destruction of government property by the mob during the incident,” Mr Chilabi said.
He said members of the public are urged to remain calm and report any suspected criminal activity to the police, rather than taking the law into their own hands.
Mr Chilabi said the police is further concerned with the continued circulation of graphic video footage related to this incident.
“Such material may cause further trauma to the bereaved family and distress to members of the public. We therefore urge everyone to refrain from sharing this content and to act responsibly, respecting the dignity of the deceased and her family”.
