U.S. and Iranian forces are engaged in a tense search for a missing American pilot following the downing of two U.S. warplanes over Iran and the Gulf, as the war in the region enters its sixth week with no signs of peace talks. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has issued a fresh ultimatum, warning Tehran that it has just 48 hours to strike a deal or face intensified military retaliation.
As the conflict rages on, a potential U.S. service member is feared to be on the run in Iranian territory, heightening the stakes for Washington. In a social media post, Trump reiterated his threat to escalate attacks on Iran if no deal is reached or if Iran does not open the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil trade.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign (sic) down on them. Glory be to GOD!” Trump declared on Truth Social.
The search for the downed pilots continues, with one U.S. Air Force crew member rescued after the destruction of a U.S. F-15E fighter jet. Another crew member remains missing. Both U.S. and Iranian forces are combing the area where the jet went down, while Black Hawk helicopters were hit by Iranian fire during the search efforts but managed to escape Iranian airspace.
Trump’s pressure on Tehran comes alongside Israeli preparations to target Iranian energy facilities, an action that is awaiting U.S. approval. A senior Israeli official indicated that such attacks could take place within the next week.
“Iran has brought this situation upon themselves by refusing to negotiate terms,” Trump said in his recent posts, doubling down on his threats to decimate Iran’s infrastructure if they do not comply.
The war has already claimed thousands of lives and wreaked havoc on the global energy market. Iran’s attacks on Israeli-linked vessels and Gulf countries have prompted retaliatory measures, while Tehran’s ongoing missile and drone strikes on Israel continue to heighten tensions across the region.
Iran, for its part, remains defiant, with its foreign minister expressing a willingness for peace talks under the right conditions, but stopping short of agreeing to Trump’s specific demands. Iran also showcased its new air defense systems, claiming success in targeting U.S. fighter jets and drones.
As the conflict escalates, international attention remains focused on the Middle East, with the U.S. and Israel preparing for further military actions. The situation remains fluid, and the risk of a broader regional war grows with each passing day.
