A dastardly kidnapping incident in Lagos has intensified concerns over safety in residential communities after a woman was abducted from her home in the early hours of Tuesday.
Mrs Olanike Ogundare was reportedly taken at about 1:00 a.m. from her residence at No. 1 Olufemi Ogundare Street in the Oke Agaye area of Ijedodo.
Zebra News understands that the attackers carried out what appeared to be a coordinated operation, during which they overpowered the security guard on duty at gunpoint before forcibly taking the victim to an unknown location.
The incident has since been reported to the Nigeria Police Force as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), with investigations now underway.
Community leaders and local security stakeholders have also been mobilised, including Gani Adams, leader of the Oodua People’s Congress, as pressure mounts for a swift resolution to the case.
It is reported that sources familiar with the situation claim the abductors have contacted the victim’s family on two occasions, demanding a ransom of ₦60 million for her release.
The kidnapping, which took place within a secured residential compound, has further alarmed residents who say it reflects a growing boldness among criminal groups operating in parts of Lagos State.
Concerned stakeholders have urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to prioritise the case and deploy stronger intelligence-led operations aimed at securing the victim’s safe release and bringing those responsible to justice.
