Popular nollywood actress and filmmaker, Ruth Kadiri, has expressed concern over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, lamenting that basic feeding has become an increasingly difficult and stressful expense for the average citizen.
The actress made her comments amid growing public complaints about inflation and the continuous rise in prices of essential food items across the country.
Her remarks add to ongoing conversations about the economic pressures facing households nationwide.
In a video shared on her official Instagram page, the film producer opened up about her personal frustrations with the current economic situation.
She described the rising cost of living as overwhelming and emotionally draining, noting that many families are struggling to cope with the financial burden of daily survival.
According to her, the situation has reached a point where basic necessities are becoming difficult for many Nigerians to afford.
Kadiri further highlighted the widening gap between income levels and the cost of essential commodities in the market.
She explained that while some individuals earn relatively low monthly salaries, the cost of basic food items continues to rise beyond their means.
She pointed out that this imbalance places additional pressure on households, forcing many people to spend a large portion of their income on food alone, leaving little or nothing for other essential needs.
The actress specifically drew attention to the rising price of cooking ingredients such as tomatoes and pepper, which are staples in Nigerian households.
She noted that even small quantities of these items now cost significantly more than before, making everyday cooking increasingly expensive.
According to her, the financial strain is felt most by ordinary citizens who must manage limited resources while dealing with escalating market prices.
Kadiri also expressed concern about how the rising cost of food is affecting the psychological well-being of families.
She suggested that the stress of trying to meet basic feeding needs is taking a toll on many Nigerians, as they struggle to balance income with daily expenses.
She emphasized that food, which should be a basic necessity, is now becoming a source of worry and hardship for a large portion of the population.
He said, “The cost of tomatoes is now so high. Like, somebody will use N5,000 to buy pepper and tomato. Like, N5,000. While somebody else out there is probably earning 25, 30, 40, N50,000. But you are only using 5,000 to buy tomatoes and peppers. A basket of tomatoes, we don’t even want to say that. You know, the cost of feeding, which is basic in Nigeria, is now so high.”
