The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has cautioned Christians against equating outward appearance with genuine spiritual maturity, stressing that true holiness begins with a transformed heart.
Speaking during a recent message, Kumuyi warned that focusing solely on external religious practices and appearance can create a false sense of spiritual attainment, causing believers to overlook the deeper transformation God desires to accomplish in their lives.
According to him, Christians who become satisfied with outward standards alone risk missing the true essence of Christian living, which is rooted in inward renewal, obedience to God, and a personal relationship with Christ.
Kumuyi maintained that genuine holiness is founded on salvation, repentance, and a renewed life in Christ, adding that outward conduct should naturally reflect an authentic relationship with God. He encouraged believers to examine themselves in the light of the Scriptures rather than measuring their spiritual maturity by appearance alone.
He concluded by urging Christians to pursue the kind of holiness that pleases God—one characterised by purity of heart, obedience to His Word, and wholehearted devotion to Christ, instead of mere conformity to external religious customs.
