A 46-year-old woman has reportedly come under investigation in the United States after she allegedly removed her pants and engaged in inappropriate behaviour during a flight from Baltimore to Miami.
According to a police report released to US media, the incident occurred on September 11 aboard a Miami-bound flight operated from Baltimore. The woman, identified as bartender Katy Inzer, was allegedly reported by a fellow passenger after he observed her engaging in sexual behaviour in her seat.
The incident reportedly prompted a flight attendant to intervene before the aircraft landed at Miami International Airport.
According to the report, a 61-year-old male passenger approached flight attendant Gabriel Barrero approximately 20 minutes after the aircraft took off. The passenger allegedly told Barrero that a woman seated in 9D had removed her pants and was engaging in inappropriate behaviour while making unusual sounds.
Barrero reportedly went to the passenger’s seat and instructed Inzer to put her pants back on. Police said she complied with the flight attendant’s instruction without further incident.
The report stated that Inzer subsequently fell asleep and remained asleep for the rest of the flight.
When the aircraft arrived at Miami International Airport, law enforcement officers reportedly boarded the plane following a report of a female passenger causing a disturbance on an inbound flight.
Police officers subsequently spoke with Inzer about the incident. According to the report, officers observed that she had a strong odour of alcohol and bloodshot eyes.
Inzer reportedly told investigators that her flight from Baltimore had been delayed by approximately two hours. She said she had consumed several alcoholic drinks before boarding the aircraft because of the delay.
However, Inzer reportedly told police that she could not remember what had happened during the flight because she had fallen asleep.
The police report did not indicate that Inzer admitted to the behaviour alleged by the passenger. Instead, her account was that she had consumed alcohol before boarding and had no recollection of events during the flight.
The incident was subsequently referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation because it occurred aboard an aircraft during an interstate flight.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reportedly determined that the matter fell within federal jurisdiction and contacted an FBI agent. The police report identified FBI agent Justin Houston as the official who was notified about the incident.
According to the report, Houston advised authorities to forward a copy of the police documentation to him for further consideration.
The case has attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the alleged conduct and the involvement of federal authorities. Conduct involving passengers on commercial aircraft can raise legal and safety concerns, particularly when it allegedly causes a disturbance or affects other passengers and members of the flight crew.
The report, however, does not indicate that the flight was forced to divert or that the alleged incident caused any physical confrontation. The flight attendant’s intervention reportedly ended the matter on board after Inzer put her clothing back on and later fell asleep.
The passenger who initially reported the incident was described in the police documentation as a 61-year-old man. His account formed the basis of the initial report made to the flight attendant.
The police report stated: “Mr. Barrero stated that approximately 20 minutes after take off, he was approached by a passenger witness” who reported seeing the woman in seat 9D remove her pants and engage in inappropriate behaviour.
Barrero then reportedly approached Inzer and instructed her to put her pants back on. According to the report, she complied without further incident and subsequently slept for the remainder of the flight.
After landing, authorities interviewed Inzer. Officers reportedly noted signs consistent with alcohol consumption, including a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage and bloodshot eyes.
Inzer explained that the departure from Baltimore had been delayed for two hours and that she had consumed several drinks before boarding. She maintained that she did not remember what had occurred during the flight because she had fallen asleep.
The police documentation subsequently passed to the FBI does not, by itself, establish whether the alleged conduct occurred exactly as described by the passenger. The allegations remain based on witness reports contained in the police record, while Inzer’s account was that she had no memory of the incident.
US media reports indicate that the status of the FBI inquiry remains unclear and that no criminal charges appear to have been filed against Inzer in connection with the incident at the time of reporting.
The case therefore remains subject to any further action that federal authorities may decide to take. Until such action occurs, the allegations contained in the police report should be distinguished from established findings of criminal wrongdoing.
The incident nonetheless highlights the challenges faced by airline crews when passengers allegedly become disruptive or behave inappropriately during flights, particularly where alcohol consumption may be involved. Flight attendants are responsible for maintaining order and responding to incidents while an aircraft is in the air, often with limited options until the plane reaches its destination.
In this case, the situation was reportedly brought under control after the flight attendant instructed the passenger to dress appropriately. The aircraft continued to Miami, where law enforcement officers met the flight and began documenting what had allegedly occurred.
The FBI’s subsequent involvement means that any further investigation or potential legal action would be handled at the federal level. As of the latest reports, however, there has been no indication that the investigation has resulted in charges against Inzer.
