The irrepressible Archbishop of Methodist Church, Aba Godfrey Agupusi has challenged those who passed out of a college or secondary school never to turn their backs on such institution but to always give back to such school when they have made it in life.
Archbishop Agupusi made this thought provoking statement in his homily to members of the Boys High School Ihube-Okigwe old boys association in their just concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Isuochi in Umunneochi local government area of Abia state.
The revered clergy who himself is a proud product of Boys High School Ihube, reminded the old boys that the school gave them the foundation and moral formation that propelled them to greatness. He therefore urged them not to forget their source.
According to him, “Whatever we are today, whatever height we have attained, Boys High School Ihube contributed immensely. We must not be ungrateful. We must give back, no matter how little, to restore the glory of our alma mater. A river that forgets its source will dry up.”
He went further to commend the national leadership for keeping the Association alive and prayed for greater unity among members.
It was indeed a carnival of sorts and a reunion laced with nostalgia.
The two-day event which started on Friday and ended on Saturday and it brought together old boys from all walks of life, both at home and in the diaspora, in a convivial atmosphere of brotherhood, unity and shared memories of their formative years .
The high point of the AGM was the vote of confidence and thunderous applause that greeted the National Executive of the Association led by its National President, High Chief Sir Fab Uwaforo-Okochi (Ugwumba).
Members were full of praises for the Ugwumba-led executive for its transparency, purposeful leadership, accountability and for repositioning the Association within a short period. Many who spoke described the executive as the best thing to have happened to the Old Boys Association in recent years.
The AGM ended with a gala night, and presentation of awards to distinguished old boys who have made the Association and the school proud.
Among the award recipients were Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, immediate past Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and the first Old Boy to become a Vice Chancellor, and HRM Eze Eddy Ibeabuchi, a revered royal father and worthy ambassador of the school, who was honoured for his contributions and his support to the Association.
In conclusion to round up the highly remarkable event the Association announced that the next AGM coming up in 2028 will be hosted by the Okigwe Branch.
