The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has congratulated Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on his appointment as the state coordinator of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council, describing the development as a recognition of his leadership and the growing political cooperation between the party and the Federal Government.
The party also reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, stressing that its political arrangement with the President’s camp would allow it to maintain its independent electoral presence in Anambra while strengthening cooperation with the Federal Government on governance, infrastructure and economic development.Buy Maps
The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Dr Ejimofor Opara, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Awka.
According to Opara, Soludo’s appointment reflects recognition of his leadership and commitment to progressive ideals, as well as the strategic importance of cooperation among political actors and parties with shared interests at the national level.
He said the appointment was consistent with APGA’s position on building a strategic partnership with the Federal Government to advance the interests of Anambra State and the South-East geopolitical zone.Access Services
Opara recalled that APGA had formally adopted President Tinubu as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election at a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), a position he said was further reinforced during the President’s working visit to Anambra State on May 8.
“In line with this resolution, APGA did not field a presidential candidate for the 2027 election,” he said.
The party’s spokesman explained that the decision was part of APGA’s broader political strategy to deepen engagement with the Federal Government while continuing to pursue its political objectives and represent the interests of its supporters in Anambra State.Access Services
He noted that Governor Soludo’s political mantra, “Progressives Are Working Together,” encapsulated the party’s position on collaboration with the national progressive movement, adding that such cooperation should translate into tangible benefits for the people rather than remain a political arrangement.
According to him, the partnership between APGA and the Federal Government has created opportunities for greater collaboration on critical infrastructure, economic development and other areas of importance to Anambra State and the wider South-East.
Opara maintained that APGA’s understanding with the President’s political camp did not mean the party would relinquish its political identity or abandon its electoral ambitions in the state.
Rather, he said, the party remained committed to consolidating its position in Anambra’s legislative elections while sustaining its relationship with the Federal Government.
He reaffirmed APGA’s position that President Tinubu would be its preferred presidential candidate in 2027, while the party would field candidates for legislative positions in Anambra State.
“In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President, APGA for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly,” he said.
The declaration underscores APGA’s stated strategy of supporting Tinubu at the presidential level while retaining its separate political platform and pursuing electoral contests at the state and federal legislative levels in Anambra.
Opara expressed confidence that Soludo, in his capacity as governor and the newly appointed campaign coordinator, would deploy his organisational experience and political relationships to coordinate the President’s campaign in the state.
He also described the appointment as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between APGA and the Federal Government, particularly in areas where political engagement could support development initiatives and improve the delivery of public services in Anambra.
The APGA spokesman reiterated that the party’s position was guided by its commitment to progressive politics and the pursuit of what it considers the best interests of Anambra State and the South-East.
“Indeed, progressives are working together,” he said.
