Goodluck Jonathan calls for end of off cycle elections saying if not checked could affect presidential election

Goodluck Jonathan has called for discarding of off circle elections in Nigeria.

The former President said this after casting his votes in his Otuoke polling booth in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa state.

He said that Nigerians should try to do a way with off-cycle elections inferring that the presidential election may also become an off-cycle if the practice is not stopped now.

Nigeria today conducted three off circle elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo state.

Off circle elections are the elections conducted outside the normal general election period in the country.

General election was conducted in Nigeria in February and March but Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi
did not conduct governorship election as their term had not ended during the conduct of the general election.
