Obasanjo & Tunubu meet in Imo state for first time since 2023 elections in Hope Uzodinma second term inauguration
President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the inauguration of Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo for his second term in office.
The ceremony took place at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri, the state capital.
Tinubu and Obasanjo were invited to the ceremony by Uzodinma.
During the ceremony, the duo exchanged pleasantries and shook hands.
This was the first time Tinubu and Obasanjo will be meeting after the 2023 elections.
In August 2022, Tinubu, then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The agenda of the meeting was unclear but it was speculated that it could be about the presidential bid of Tinubu.
Obasanjo did not support the presidential bid of Tinubu. The former president supported Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Tinubu and Obasanjo are from the south-west geo-political zone of the country.
In the political arena, both men are rivals.
In 2019, Tinubu asked Obasanjo to retire to his farm in Ota, Ogun state.
Obasanjo was president from 1999 to 2007.
During that period, Tinubu was the governor of Lagos.
While Obasanjo was president he seized the monthly allocation for Lagos state when Tinubu illegally and unconstitutionally created additional local government councils for Lagos state bringing the total to 57 local government areas.
