Sharia police in Kano arrests 52 Keke riders for corrupt and immoral haircuts
Sharia police popularly known as Hisbah, has arrested no fewer than 52 tricycle riders in Kano over several alleged offenses including “immoral haircuts,” selling illegal drugs as well as mixing opposite genders in their vehicles.
The tricycle riders were taken into custody by operatives of the Hisbah command from different parts of Kano city.
Recall that Hisbah command had launched an exercise tagged “Operation Kau da Badala”, in a bid to sanitize Kano state from immoral activities such as prostitution, drug abuse, selling and consumption of alcohol and other acts.
Sheikh Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah who addressed the 52 tricycle riders urged them to be good ambassadors of Islam by shunning social vices.
He said among the alleged offenses of the tricylists include “immoral hair cuts, riding around wearing only shorts, using objectionable posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and conveying women to places where they engage in immoral acts.”
“As Muslims, we would not accept this behaviour and activities of the tricycle riders. That is why we brought you here in order to admonish you on the negative implications of these acts on our religion and culture as people of Kano,” he said.
He added that the board would continue to check such illegal activities among the tricyclists to arrest the recalcitrant ones.
