Senior citizens resident in Winnipeg, Canada were once again empowered by B-Women on wings with a thought provoking financial education workshop.
The seminar which was held at a Community Hall on 254 Lakewood Boulevard near JH Bruns Collegiate was attended by serious elderly men and women who really wanted to improve their financial knowledge.
Seminar facilitator Reverend Gabriel took time to take the participants through the elementary and rudimentary aspects of money especially as it concerns those living in Canada..
According to him the financial language of Canada is money as he explained the different names each of the Canadian currency is known. Names like Nickel, Dime, Quarter, Loonie, Toonie etc were for the first time by some participants explained to them.
Also participants were taught how to open bank accounts, different bank accounts, retirement savings and packages available for them to take advantage of.
Thereafter the seminar was divided into sessions of questions and answers where participants threw up questions and concerns about benefits they can get from government and society in their old age.
Suggestions were made for B-Women on Wings to form a co-operative society to attract funds and goodies for the seniors. It was also suggested that the NGO explore ways of seeking out for grants from government, public spirited individuals and organizations to be extended to the elderly to help them navigate life in their old age.
Those who couldn’t attend expressed regrets as some of the former participants who have traveled back to their base were assured of being taken along the next time by way of connecting them to the live zoom of the seminar.
It will be recalled that B-Women on Wings organized a well attended seminar in September 2025 for the seniors citizens on computer literacy and how to use computers. At the end of the seminar each participant went home with one brand new laptop.
The second phase of the financial education seminar is slated to take place in April, 2026.
