The month of August and September, 2025 was a good one for those classified as senior citizens and elders as B-Women On Wings Canada International (B-WOW) organised a two weeks of digital training skills on the use of computers.
The program that started in the last week of August saw the covergence of the elderly starting from about 60 years and above both men and women.
B’WOW is a vibrant not-for-profit organization founded by Black immigrant women to uplift and empower women of color throughout Canada.
It has a strong focus on advocacy, mentorship, and community engagement.
The global NGO offers programs that promote mental health, financial and digital literacy, career development, leadership, and a whole lot more
The highly engaging and actively partipatory sessions saw the facilitators equipping participants with essential computer skills, particularly for those using the computer for the first time
To sustain and ensure continued learning with a view of preventing skill loss, the organization generously provided laptops to all the participants. This is to enable them to practice at home and stay connected in an increasingly digital world.
As one of the cardinal objectives of B-WOW international, it has the focus to continue to be a beacon of empowerment by fostering inclusion, resilience, and opportunity for marginalized communities.
The organizers and facilitators of the program Dr Bridget Fonnenky and Reverend Gabriel lived up to the billing as they not only delivered in making the teaching rudimentary but down to earth to the level that the elderly participants grabbed every aspect of the sessions.
