Bandits have reportedly, after collecting a N15 million ransom for his release, killed the Vice Chairman of Bukuyum Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Mu’azu Muhammad Gwashi.
Reports disclosed that Gwashi had spent more than six months in captivity, with his abductors initially demanding N30 million.
A resident, Muhammad Mansur Sani, said that the community struggled to raise the money.
Said he: “They demanded N30 million, which we couldn’t afford. After collecting N15 million, they brought him to the community. Many people saw him, but they later took him back into the forest and killed him.”
The State Commissioner for Information, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, has condoled with the family and the people of Bukuyum, describing the killing as tragic.
In a separate incident two days earlier, bandits invaded Saran Wawa village in Ruwan Rana district and abducted five nursing mothers and four others.
A relative of one of the victims, Malam Shehu, said the attack occurred around midnight on December 8.
The abducted women, each carrying a baby, were taken to an unknown location, and the kidnappers have yet to contact their families.
