During an interview from 8:35 on Arise Television, veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu revealed that he once stopped writing his famous column Pendulum partly because of pressure connected to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Momodu explained that his weekly column, which used to appear on the back page of THISDAY every Saturday, often attracted reactions whenever he wrote critically about Tinubu.
According to him, an elderly statesman whom he deeply respected repeatedly contacted him after such articles and urged him to stop criticizing the president.
According to him, “I stopped writing Pendulum on the back page of ThisDay because of President Tinubu because every Saturday, anytime I wrote, one elder statesman that I respect would call me and say, ‘Dele, leave Tinubu alone, do this,’ and we all, one by one, were silenced.”
Momodu suggested that this pressure created an environment where people who once openly criticized political leaders gradually became quiet.
He said the constant calls and persuasion from influential figures contributed to a broader pattern in which voices that previously challenged those in power became restrained.
