Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo , has pledged to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the state in the 2027 general elections
The governor made the declaration on Friday during an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), where he expressed strong confidence in the President’s chances in Edo, citing ongoing development projects across the state.
According to Okpebholo, the scale of federal-backed projects in Edo would translate into electoral support for Tinubu come 2027.
“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes,” the governor said. “The various projects across the state are the things that will speak for Tinubu, and he will win here. Bet me—if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor.”
Okpebholo further dismissed any notion of a stiff contest for the President in the state, insisting that his brand of politics is rooted in grassroots mobilisation rather than intimidation.
“There’s no election here for him. I’m a politician who understudied Chief Anennhi. My style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots,” he added.
