The media office of Peter Obi has dismissed claims by presidential aide Daniel Bwala that the former Anambra State governor attempted to engage him politically, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday by its spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) said Obi does not participate in what it described as “transactional politics.”
The statement said the media office would ordinarily ignore Bwala’s remarks but decided to respond to prevent the public from being misled.
POMR maintained that Obi deliberately distances himself from individuals and practices associated with transactional politics, insisting that the former Labour Party presidential candidate remains committed to promoting good governance and national development.
According to the statement, Obi prefers to deploy resources toward social development initiatives rather than political inducements.
“Peter Obi would rather allocate resources to provide desks for children in Bwala’s village than pay him to fabricate falsehoods for public consumption,” the statement said.
The group further stressed that Obi’s political approach is centered on persuasion and shared values rather than financial incentives.
It said the former governor invites Nigerians to support his vision voluntarily, driven by a collective desire to improve the country.
POMR also urged politicians involved in transactional politics to reconsider their actions, warning that such practices harm society and jeopardize the future of Nigerian children.
The statement concluded by asking Bwala and others to “count Peter Obi out” of what it described as greed-driven politics and instead support efforts aimed at building a “new Nigeria.”
