On Thursday, Justice Chizoba Orji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court granted Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan a ₦50 million bail following her plea of not guilty to charges of alleged defamation.
The woman legislator was granted bail on the condition of securing one guarantor, who must own property in Abuja and be a responsible resident of the Federal Capital Territory.
The judge postponed the trial date to September 23, 2025.
Previously, the lawmaker faced arraignment by the Federal Government on three charges related to alleged defamation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Security personnel were present around the court, and the proceeding was attended by the lawmaker’s husband; Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education; activist Aisha Yesufu; as well as numerous supporters.
