Labour party house of rep.member Ginger Onwusibe calls for release of Nnamdi Kanu

Member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, on Thursday urged the House of Representatives to persuade the Federal Government of Nigeria to initiate process for the release of the embattled leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for peace to return to the South Eastern region of Nigeria.

In his remarks during plenary, Hon. Onwusibe pointed out that the rising spate of insecurity in the South East, is as a result of the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in disobedience to court orders.

He prayed the House unanimously persuade President Bola Tinubu to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stating that this will restore peace in the South Eastern region.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in October, 2022 discharged and acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism and reasonable felony.

He has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021 following his extraordinary rendition from Kenya.

To many Nigerians this is one of the surest ways of restoring peace in the South east and stop the ill conceived sit-at-home order and wanton killings and destruction going on in Igbo land.
