Lagos state emergency speaker Meranda resigns saying resignation is to save Assembly from further embarrassment

Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Meranda read her resignation letter out at the plenary Monday in the afternoon,” she said at a special plenary on Monday.

She steps down alongside all appointed officers under her tenure.

Meranda took office as Speaker on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is now reportedly set for reinstatement.

Despite her short time in the role, lawmakers praised her leadership skills and her ability to create a positive and collaborative atmosphere within the Assembly.

In a significant move, Meranda resigned from her position, along with all the principal officers who were appointed alongside her.
