The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour party Peter Obi has come out to refirm his vow to just serve one term if elected president in 2027.
Responding to the indirect jab thrown to him by Anambra state governor Chukwuma Soludo in which he said anybody saying he will do just one need to undergo a psychiatic evaluation as the person may not be mentally stable.
The wave making former Anambra state governor said that his pledge for one term is deliberate act of statemanship and rooted in global examples of impactful leadership and not necessarily longevity in office.
He further said that ‘ One of the greatest American presidents Abraham Lincoln served four years and his legacies still endures, South Africa Nelson Mandela chose one term despite massive pressure to continue.
He concluded that his promise of one term is not borne out of political convenience but from a commitment to deliver measureable results within four years.
He cited his tenure as Anambra state governor as a proof of his adherence to promises and capacity to lead with accountability.
