Nigerian comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, has apologized and expressed regret for his recent comments claiming that Nigeria is safer under President Bola Tinubu than it was a decade ago.
The apology followed intense backlash and “dragging” on social media after his appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast. .
The Initial Claim: During the podcast, Seyi Law stated, “Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago,” while arguing that the current administration had neutralised more bandits than previous governments.
Many Nigerians, including victims of kidnapping and insecurity, slammed the comedian for being “insensitive” and disconnected from the reality of daily life, particularly citing his own family’s residence in the United Kingdom.
, Seyi Law addressed the outrage, stating, “I am sincerely and deeply sorry for such insensitive statement. I apologise to victims, families and everyone who has been affected in any way by the insecurity in the country”.
Despite apologizing for the timing and sensitivity of his comment, he maintained his role as a supporter of President Tinubu, calling on the government to “intensify efforts in the battle against insecurity”.
His retraction comes after critics pointed out continued insecurity in various parts of the country, despite his earlier assertion that the security situation had improved.
