A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a medical doctor serving as Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, has died after being set on fire by his wife during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred on September 22, 2025, at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Reports say Lt. Haruna had a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, who allegedly poured petrol on him and set him ablaze. He was initially treated at the Military Reference Section before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to severe burns.
The suspect is in custody as investigations continue. Efforts to reach the Army’s Public Relations Director, Lt. Col. Onyechi Appolonia Anele, for comment were unsuccessful.
