Life has not been easy for motorists, residents, users and stakeholders that have anything to do on the stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Reason being that for close to eight years now the Expressway has been under reconstruction, making the major contractor JULIUS BERGER to occasionally do barricades and impediments on the ever busy and all important road.
But the last four weeks have been terrible as blockages at Secretariat, Berger Bus Stop, Kara areas have made life unbearable for motorists and their vehicles. Now it takes an average of three hours to move from Magboro bus stop to 7-UP area in Lagos, a Journey of less than 20 minutes.
Return Journey from Lagos to Ibadan is even the worst as traffic most days starts from Iyana-Oworo down to Opic area and on a good day motorists spend six to eight hours to navigate out of the traffic.
Many businesses on that stretch of the road are Suffering as the only booming business there are the street hawkers on the Expressway.
As a result of this many motorists have Suffered terrible breakdown and deterioration of their vehicles. Not only that the health of these motorists and regular users of the road are on the decline as some have died prematurely while some suffer terrible illness Particularly those Suffering from terminal diseases.
To worsen the whole matter motorists and regular users are occasionally attacked by Hoodlums, armed robbers and even Kidnappers as scores of kidnapping cases have been recorded on the road due to traffic congestion.
The most annoying aspect of it is that there is no hope of when the road reconstruction will end so that motorists and users of the road will have respite as there is no alternative route or even strong presence of law enforcement agents, traffic controllers, Road Safety Officials to help manage the terrible traffic.
