Former Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dead.
He died at age of 82 in a London hospital.
This was disclosed in a statement shared by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on his personal X account on Sunday.
“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIRRAJIUUN.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
“May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Agenda Papers reported few days ago that the former president is critically ill and receiving treatment in a London hospital.
Buhari first came to limelight during the military regime of Obasanjo where he was the petroleum minister that has N2.8 million oil scam.
By December 31, 1983 he in conjunction with other military officers overthrew the civilian regime of Shehu Shagari and he became the head of state.
He was overthrown in August 1985 by Ibrahim Babangida.
However in 2015 he bounced back as civilian president after defeating then President Goodluck Jonathan in a highly controversial election after failing to clinch the presidency for a record four times.
Shehu Garba, his media Spokesman on Friday on Channel television said Buhari was out intensive care unit and recuperating only for the sad news of his demise to be reported today.
