The United States has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or location of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and several other senior Iranian officials.
The offer was made through the Rewards for Justice programme run by the United States Department of State, which said the bounty targets individuals allegedly linked to operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reports AFP.
According to US authorities, the reward covers Mojtaba Khamenei and nine other high-ranking Iranian military and intelligence figures believed to be involved in directing activities attributed to the IRGC across different parts of the world.
Officials said individuals who provide credible information that helps identify or locate the targets could receive up to $10 million, along with the possibility of relocation assistance.
The move comes amid heightened tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel following recent military confrontations in the Middle East.
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed Iran’s top leadership role after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, earlier in the conflict. Since then, the new Iranian leader has remained largely out of the public spotlight, fuelling speculation about his whereabouts and security.
The latest bounty announcement is expected to further escalate diplomatic tensions between Washington and Tehran as the regional crisis continues to unfold.
