Nigerian entertainer and social activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada, has issued a stern warning to politicians planning to rig the 2027 general elections, declaring that such actions will come with grave consequences.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, the outspoken septuagenarian said the slogan for the forthcoming polls will be “rig and die,” stressing that Nigerians will no longer tolerate electoral fraud, reports Nigerian Tribune.
Charly boy said, “The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria.
“Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. What is coming by 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue in this manner or to cause a revolution to happen in this country.”
The convener of the OurMumuDonDo Movement criticised the current political system, saying it was abnormal for “the worst of us” to continue leading “the best of us.”
He warned that such a situation was bound to “explode” if left unchecked.
Charly Boy also reacted to the Lagos State government’s decision to rename Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga, dismissing the move as “outright silly and a bloody distraction.”
According to him, his primary concern is rescuing millions of Nigerians who go to bed hungry every night.
“The solution to bad governance in Nigeria can only come when our votes begin to count. So, our concern right now should be how our votes would count in 2027.
“I see 2027 as rig and die. Enough is enough. We cannot continue to have the worst of us leading the best of us. It is abnormal to let this kind of system continue. This is bound to explode. We have nothing to lose,” he asserted.
He further expressed Omoyele Sowore, over his recent arrest by the Nigerian Police, praising his courage in speaking truth to power.
“Anyone doing the kind of things Sowore is engaged in should be ready at any time for arrest. This is a government without any checks,” he said.
“It is not easy to speak truth to power. We need a lot more people like him in Nigeria. I have always maintained that the salvation of Nigeria lies in the hands of its exceptional young people. So, I’m happy that he has regained his freedom. I will say it is back to the tranches because the fight is just beginning.”
