Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has taken a swipe at Senate President Godswill Akpabio following his plea to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the withdrawal of security aides attached to senators.
The exchange followed Friday’s Senate sitting where President Tinubu presented the 2026 budget to the National Assembly. During the session, Akpabio openly appealed to the president to review his security policy, warning that many senators might be unable to travel to their constituencies during the festive period without adequate protection.
Recall that President Tinubu recently ordered the withdrawal of security details attached to several VIPs, citing pressure on the nation’s limited security resources. The decision sparked complaints among lawmakers, some of whom argued that the move exposed them to risks, especially when travelling home.
Reacting to Akpabio’s comment, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan took to her social media page on Saturday to express her displeasure, reminding the Senate President of her own experience earlier in the year.
“Somebody: Some senators won’t be able to go home this holiday, pls review your security policy.
Me: When you withdrew my security amidst the illegal suspension nko? Allah Almighty through my beloved people of Kogi Central are my security.
Beat that love.”
She signed off the post with her trademark style, describing herself as “Adorably Kogi Central for Nigeria.”
The lawmaker was referring to events in March, when the Senate President ordered the withdrawal of her security aides following her six-month suspension from the Senate. The suspension, which lasted from March to September, was controversial and widely debated at the time.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s response has since gone viral, with many Nigerians pointing out the irony in lawmakers now seeking sympathy over security concerns, while others praised the senator for standing firm and relying on the support of her constituents.
