A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Alayande, has died after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos campus.
The incident occurred around 4 am on Friday, August 7, 2026, while Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Enugu campus, was undergoing an externship programme at the Lagos campus.
The management of the Nigerian Law School confirmed the incident on Monday and said it had launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
In a statement, Aderonke Osho, secretary to the council and director of administration, said preliminary findings showed that Alayande sustained injuries from the fall and later died.
“Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the statement reads.
“The Nigerian Law School is deeply saddened by this tragic development.
“Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate.”
The management expressed condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the incident, while offering its thoughts and prayers to the family.
It also said the family had asked for privacy and urged members of the public and the media to respect their wishes during the mourning period.
“The Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” the statement added.
The institution also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students and staff.
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported the case after the student was found unresponsive on the premises.
According to the police, officers visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue, while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.
