A 28-year-old Nigerian woman was arrested in Ghana in April 2026 for operating an illegal “ashawo” (brothel) joint at Manso Watreso in the Ashanti Region. The arrest followed community complaints about organized prostitution and illegal activities, with others fleeing during the raid.
The illicit facility was located in Manso Watreso, Ashanti South Region and the 28-year-old Nigerian woman, believed to be the owner, was taken into custody to assist with investigations.
The operation was triggered by concerns from local residents regarding illegal activities involving foreign nationals.
This incident is part of increasing police efforts in Ghana to curb prostitution, human trafficking, and unlicensed “hookup” hotels.
Several arrests were reported in the Eastern Region, where a woman was arrested for forcing other women into prostitution, with victims reporting being held against their will.
In February 2026: A raid in McCarthy Hills, Accra, resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals for suspected trafficking.
Also in the same vein in April 2025 a 22-year-old woman was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Achimota Circuit Court for trafficking.
The Ghana Police and Immigration Service continue to investigate these incidents to clamp down on organized crime.
