The Presidency has explained that President Bola Tinubu’s three-week vacation in Europe is intended to allow him to rest and replenish his energy after months of intensive engagement with national affairs.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, gave the explanation while addressing journalists on Sunday.
Dare said Tinubu had spent the previous six to seven months attending to pressing matters of state and taking major decisions affecting the economy, national security and the general administration of the country.
“The President has had several months—six, seven months—of being engaged with state matters,” the presidential aide said.
“We’ve seen monumental changes, monumental decisions taken with our security, with our economy and so many other things as pertains to the running of the affairs of this country.”
According to Dare, the timing of the vacation was also influenced by the commencement of political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the coming months would involve intense political activities across the country, making it necessary for the President to rest and prepare physically for the demanding campaign schedule.
“And at this point, the campaign season has just started. We have four, five months of serious campaigning. Of course, governance will still continue,” he said.
Dare stressed that the President’s absence would not amount to a suspension of governance or disengagement from his official responsibilities.
He said Tinubu would continue to receive briefings and attend to important government matters while abroad on vacation.
The presidential aide maintained that the three-week break was necessary for the President to recover from the pressure of recent months and return sufficiently refreshed for the twin demands of governing the country and leading his re-election campaign.
