Primate Elijah Ayodele, Founder and Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a stark warning to Nigerians, urging them to take responsibility for their safety amid rising insecurity.
Speaking on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos, the cleric declared that neither government nor traditional rulers are prepared to defend the people.
Ayodele called for the scrapping of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, describing them as sitting grounds for terrorists.
He alleged that terrorists are politically sponsored, making it difficult for successive governments to confront them directly.
He questioned why controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi remains free, suggesting that his continued liberty points to government complicity. “If Gumi were an ordinary person, he would have been jailed long ago,” Ayodele stated.
The cleric criticised traditional rulers, accusing them of being dollarised and more concerned with luxury than protecting their subjects.
He warned that terrorists are planning attacks in Ogun and Osun States, urging schools in Ogun to strengthen security measures.
Ayodele further cautioned that insurgents are eyeing Lagos as a future target, predicting that public frustration over insecurity could spark a revolt against the government.
“Only God is protecting us,” he said, lamenting the daily killing of soldiers and questioning the effectiveness of the Chief of Army Staff.
