A Nigerian man has recounted a financial dispute with his wife, telling a court that he struggled to raise ₦24,000 for their daughter’s medical treatment despite allegedly discovering that his wife had more than ₦600,000 in her bank account.
The man made the disclosure while speaking on TheJusticeCourt, where he described the financial pressures he faced while providing for his family. His account has also been reported by Nigerian media outlets.
According to him, his income was unstable, but he regularly tried to ensure that his family had food and other necessities.
He said he often bought foodstuff ahead of time because he did not want his wife and children to experience a situation where there was nothing to eat.
He also claimed that he bought shawarma for his wife regularly after work and made efforts to send her money for food while she was at her workplace.
The situation, however, became difficult when their daughter required hospital treatment. The man said he was at the hospital with his daughter but did not have enough cash to settle a ₦24,000 payment. He explained that he had to wait for his brother, who was outside Nigeria, to send him money.
He said he did not immediately ask his wife for financial assistance because he had been struggling to provide for the household and had only recently sent her money to eat at work.
According to his testimony, he later discovered that his wife had more than ₦600,000 in her account. The discovery reportedly became a major source of disagreement between the couple.
The man further recounted that after an argument, he took possession of his wife’s phone, telling her he would keep it for several days.
He said that within a short period, she purchased another phone for ₦319,000. It was this purchase, he alleged, that made him question how she could spend ₦319,000 on another phone shortly after he had struggled to find ₦24,000 for their daughter’s treatment.
