Julius Agwu, the Nigerian comedian, has opened up about his struggles during and after undergoing brain surgery in 2015.
In a chat on the Beer Parlour show, the comedian revealed how he was in a coma for three months at a London hospital after surgery to remove a malignant tumour from his brain in 2015.
“There are no rumours about my health. It is true; I just wanted to cool down before addressing it. I had a tumour surgery in 2015, a brain surgery,” he said.
“After that, I travelled to London to do a show, just two days before the show, I was rushed to the hospital, that was in 2016. I was in coma for 3 months. I thank God I am alive”.
As Agwu recounted his ordeal, he became emotional and revealed how he lost friendships and support from people close to him during his recovery from the surgery.
He said some of his friends stopped communicating with him, while his manager also left and allegedly took his money, making the period particularly difficult.
“I was the one who coined the name ‘music comedy’, which shows how my brain works, which is why it’s painful what happened to me. Anyone who knows anything about what happened to me, I leave them to God,” he said.
“Sometimes, I just think, what type of life am I living? During that surgery, my friends deserted me, stopped talking to me, even my manager left and stole my money.”
He further said the surgery affected his memory, causing him to forget many things.
“I forget so many things because of the brain surgery,” he added.
