Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he expects to be among the first politicians targeted by the opposition if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
The former Rivers State governor attributed his position to his strong support for Tinubu’s re-election, saying his political alignment with the President could make him a target if either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) emerges victorious in 2027.
According to Wike, he has no regrets about his decision to support Tinubu despite criticism from political opponents and others who disagree with his position.

The FCT minister said he was fully aware of the political risks associated with his support for Tinubu but maintained that he would continue to defend the President and confront his opponents.
Wike said his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election had become a major focus of his political activities, regardless of the personal consequences.
According to him ,each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
He also dismissed criticisms directed at him over his support for the President, saying he had endured significant attacks and name-calling because of his political position.
Wike further submitted that I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr. President,” he declared.
Wike, who remains a prominent figure in the political realignment ahead of the 2027 election, has repeatedly defended his decision to work with the Tinubu administration despite his background in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his previous political differences with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
