Popular Nigerian pastor and comic content creator Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has expressed views opposing the use of DNA tests by Igbo men, suggesting it is not part of Igbo culture.
He stated this while carrying out a deliverance on an old woman from Ebonyi state with aggravated hypertensive heart disease.
According to ,Odumeje his stance is predicated on the following points that
DNA is not Igbo Culture
He asserted that DNA testing is not a practice that aligns with traditional Igbo culture, suggesting that such tests bring diseases, dysfunction, and unnecessary doubt into homes
He implied that children born within a marriage should be accepted as the husband’s, aligning with traditional sentiments that prioritize familial unity over scientific validation of paternity.
He even raised questions about the reliability of laboratory tests, saying that foreign or local labs might give different diagnoses, implying that relying solely on test results is not the right way to manage family issues.
Conversely, some cultural leaders and figures argue that widespread DNA testing can destroy family structures, arguing that traditional customs are sufficient for determining lineage
Odumeje insisted that any child born into a home the husband should accept the child and not question it by way of doing DNA.
He even said that Igbo culture states that any child that was born without payment of bride price automatically becomes the child of the man that eventually marries the woman.
