Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere aka Odumeje has criticized the Federal Government and Minister of Works Dave Umahi over the temporary closure and repairs of the old First Niger Bridge in Onitsha
Odumeje accused the government of playing politics, questioning why the major repairs are only happening as the 2027 general election is fast approaching.
He noted that the Onitsha Head Bridge is an economic lifeline for the South-East and should not be used as a seasonal campaign tool or left to cause long, disruptive closures for commuters
The fiery pastor also slammed South-East political elites, calling them out for failing to address broader regional infrastructure issues, such as the lack of an international embassy in the zone.
Minister of Works David Umahi ordered the temporary closure of the old Niger Bridge following viral videos exposing missing structural bolts, expansion joints, and vandalism.
