The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is sitting on a potential windfall of up to US$11-billion from an early investment in SpaceX.
This massive projected return stems from a 2019 investment of roughly $300-million, rather than a $300 investment made in 2016.
The fund originally invested in SpaceX in June 2019. The stake was executed through the Teachers’ Innovation Platform (TIP) (now known as Teachers’ Venture Growth).
The initial commitment was roughly US$220-million, which equated to approximately $300-million at the time.
The projected windfall of up to US$11.6-billion is tied to SpaceX’s soaring valuation and its preparations to list on the Nasdaq.
