African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has appointed former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman of his Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 election.Election results tracker
The campaign structure is headed by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, while Senator Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu will serve as Director-General and campaign manager. The appointments form part of a wider council unveiled by Atiku on Thursday.
The campaign council includes six major operational directorates and about 30 directors assigned to different responsibilities. Dele Momodu is expected to oversee media and communications, while Mohammed Hayatudeen and Kingsley Moghalu are among those listed in the policy structure.Social media integration
El-Rufai’s appointment comes while he remains in custody over ongoing legal proceedings. Reports on the campaign announcement identified him as part of Atiku’s senior political coordination team despite his current detention.
The former Kaduna governor has denied wrongdoing in the cases against him and has previously described his prosecution as politically motivated.
John Odigie-Oyegun, a former Edo State governor and pioneer national chairman of All Progressives Congress, will chair the Campaign Advisory Council, with other senior political figures assigned to advisory and mobilisation roles.Read Political News
