Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying the administration’s reforms require more time to deliver their full benefits.
Speaking in a viral video sighted by Tribune Online, Musa said the government had taken difficult but necessary decisions aimed at addressing long-standing challenges facing the country.
According to him, the impact of those reforms would become more evident if the administration is given additional time to complete its agenda.
The defense minister argued that many of the issues currently being addressed were inherited problems that had accumulated over the years, noting that the government had chosen to confront them through what he described as bold actions.
He said, “But what I’m saying is that if you could have done this in three years, imagine he has four, five additional years to finish. We need Nigerians to understand that a lot of things that were left out is what he’s taking.
“He’s taking very bold action, and when you take bold action, there will be difficulty at the beginning, but at the end of it, it’s just like a woman that is pregnant. When she’s in labour, sometimes you might swear that that will be the last time she wants to give birth, but immediately she delivers; she’ll be joyful.
“So it’s important for us to understand that what we’re going through is making us stronger, and we’re going to come out better.
“So all Nigerians should continue to partner together with the president, give him the second term, and I can assure you that Nigeria will be far, far better than how it is now.”
The former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) maintained that continued public support for the administration would help sustain ongoing reforms and strengthen efforts aimed at improving the country’s development and stability.
