Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on Tuesday declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earned the votes of the Southeast through his administration’s massive investment in infrastructure across the region.
The governor urged Ndigbo to close ranks and support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, insisting that the President has demonstrated uncommon commitment to the development of the Southeast.
Nwifuru spoke while inspecting the ongoing 118-kilometre Trans-Saharan Highway from Ndibe Bridge in Afikpo through Abaomege, Onueke, Ezza South, Ukwuachi, Ezza North, Ishieke and Mbeke in Ebonyi State to Gboko in Benue State.
At the proposed flyover site in Ukwuachi, the governor said the ongoing federal projects had rewritten the infrastructure narrative of the Southeast.
“I am very excited about the activities of Mr. President, especially in the area of infrastructure. He knows and understands that the sole responsibility of government is to provide basic amenities.
“That is exactly what Mr. President is doing for us in Ebonyi State and the Southeast. Sincerely, the people of Ebonyi State are very grateful.
“The President has not only shown capacity but has shown love for us,” he said.
According to him, the scale of infrastructure being delivered by the Tinubu administration provides sufficient justification for the people of the Southeast to reciprocate with overwhelming electoral support in the next presidential election.
The governor also used the inspection to issue a stern warning to contractors handling the highway project, directing them to adhere strictly to approved engineering standards and specifications.
He cautioned against poor workmanship, substandard material mixtures, leakages and diversion of project funds, stressing that the quality of the project must not be compromised.
Nwifuru assured the contractors of the Ebonyi State Government’s support in addressing issues relating to evaluation and other matters capable of delaying the execution of the project.
“When it comes to evaluation, our people are very cooperative. We will help you in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, the Federal Controller of Works in Ebonyi State, Engr. Maxwell Okoha, said the flyover component of the Trans-Saharan Highway was designed to decongest traffic, improve safety and facilitate seamless movement of commuters and other road users.
He assured that every component of the project would be executed in accordance with approved engineering standards.
The Managing Director of Infouest Construction Company Limited, Mr. Mustapha Mohammad, also assured the governor that the company would deploy the required manpower and resources to ensure the timely delivery of the project without compromising quality.
